I like to consider myself an early adopter when it comes to technology and I was very quick to jump on the smart home trend. We started off with smart speakers, streaming devices and displays and later started adding in other smart products like plugs, lightbulbs, and cameras.
I was excited when I found out that The Home Depot carries an exclusive line of smart home products that also integrate into their easy to use app, Hubspace. The Hubspace app is intuitive and makes setting up smart products easy. Visit www.homedepot.com/hubspace to learn more about the Hubspace products and App.
The Hubspace App
The Hubspace app is available for Android and IOS operating systems, has a simple interface, and is extremely intuitive! Device setup is also simple:
- Scan the QR code included with the device
- Name the device and assign it to a room
- Pair to your network
Download the Hubspace App
Ceiling Fan
My daughter’s room is always a little bit cooler or a little bit warmer than the rest of our second floor so I’ve been wanting to add in a ceiling fan for a while. I’ve been hesitant because I’ve wanted one that I could control without having to disturb her sleep.
The Hampton Bay Ceiling Fan has been a great addition to her room so far! This fan is 54” and is designed for a slightly larger room than what she has, but it’s definitely been a blessing to have a ceiling fan in her space!
The fan can be controlled with a physical remote, via the Hubspace app, or with the “Hey Google” command we use with our smart speakers (it also works with Alexa).
Smart Bulbs
We already had a few smart bulbs in our home but the Ecosmart smart light bulbs are a new favorite because they’re dimmable AND they’re tunable. What does tunable mean? Well… let me tell you!
Tunable means that you can change the color temperature of the bulb! If you prefer cooler light, there’s a setting for you! If you gravitate more towards warm light, there’s also a setting for that! You can even adjust the light to replicate daylight and candlelight. I haven’t had a smart bulb with that option before and that’s what makes these bulbs unique.
Smart Plugs
I added a few smart plugs to the house, two indoors and one outdoors. The indoor smart plug that I will use the most is one that I added to my kitchen for my espresso maker! This is an espresso maker manufactured in the 1990’s so it’s far from smart. For the longest I haven’t had a way to have an auto-on setting for my espresso maker but now I do! I can just put my ground espresso beans in the machine before I go to bed and can tap the “on” button on my phone when I wake up to trigger the brewing of a few shots of espresso! It’s been a game changer (and much cheaper than buying a smart espresso maker).
The other indoor plug is for use with our iron. I have a better peace of mind being able to switch it off remotely just in case I forgot to turn it off before I left the house.
The Defiant outdoor smart plug is a perfect addition to our deck space. I have the most beautiful cafe lights but prior to this smart plug I would have to plug them in and then unplug them every time we would hang out on the deck. The smart plug can be controlled by the Hubspace app, via “Hey Google” commands, or via buttons directly on the plug. I love that I don’t have to bend over and pull the plug everytime I want to turn the lights on and off.
