There’s 3 weeks left in the Fall 2021 One Room Challenge and I’m excited and a little nervous about the remaining weeks. So let’s start with the exciting parts first.

If you’ve missed any of my weekly updates you can click the buttons below for easy access.

Cabinet Progress

I’ve always wanted shaker cabinets for my kitchen. There’s just something so classic about them. After looking into pricing to buy replacement cabinet doors I knew that I was either going to have to sand and reuse my current doors or build my own. So, of course I decided to try building my own.

Most of the tutorials I found online required the use of a table saw (which I don’t own and don’t currently have room to store). So I found a version that didn’t require a table saw and I made a few tweaks and adjustments until I came up with my own design for “cheater shaker cabinets”. My goal is to have a tutorial available soon after the kitchen project is done.

I’m so excited that most of my cabinets are built! I hung a few to see how they look in my kitchen and honestly, they look just as good as I dreamed they would! I still need to put a few more together. After I finish building I need to sand down the wood filler, drill holes for the hinges, and then paint!

I added my Emtek Egg Knobs to one of the cabinets just to get a sneak peek of how they will look and I’m so happy with the knob color and style that I’m going with. Just take a moment to visualize this with me — Emtek egg knobs on all of the uppers and then, Emtek spindle pulls on the drawers… It’s going to be so good.

Small Setbacks

With any major project there’s sure to be setbacks. I feel like this kitchen remode has been more setbacks than progress but I’m still hopeful and confident that everuthing will come together in time.

We plan to run the kichen flooring throughout the rest of the main floor and after attempting to make a small repair in our subfloor I found that there was some water damage impacting our subfloor that we were unaware of. So we will need to get that repaired before I can finish the flooring in the Kitchen. I’m hopeful that this is the last setback we have in this space. I know that this isn’t uncommon, but at the same time it does hault progress and kills motivation.

Project Sources

I loved working on the design for this kitchen but i’ve LOVED receiving items in the mail and getting to touch and see them! Now that kitchen demo is basically over it’s time to start putting things back together. Below I’m sharing sources for some of the kitchen items that I’m most excited to adding to the space!

  1. You did a great job on those shaker doors! I can’t wait to see how they look with your paint color and the wallpaper!!

    • No full tutorial on the blog yet. I want to make sure I see how they expand and contract before I do a full tutorial. Would hate to steer people in the wrong direction. I did however, create a reel on my Instagram with a high level tutorial.

  2. Love your kitchen makeover! I’m trying to figure out the cupboard/drawer fronts – I’ve looked on IG and don’t see any more info on then but im also not an IG guru. Is it just 1×3 pine frame with 1/4 MDF panel?
    Thanks!

  3. I love this! DIY is so intimidating to me but I love what you’ve done. Will you have a tutorial on the kitchen cabinets? I’m considering repainting mine because of the expense but I’ve found that a couple of the doors are split. Plus I also love the shaker look. You’re a real inspiration!
