Cabinet Progress

I’ve always wanted shaker cabinets for my kitchen. There’s just something so classic about them. After looking into pricing to buy replacement cabinet doors I knew that I was either going to have to sand and reuse my current doors or build my own. So, of course I decided to try building my own.

We’re at the half way point of the Fall 2021 One Room Challenge and although it might look like my kitchen is in shambles, it’s actually really starting to take shape. I’ve put quite a bit of literal blood sweat and tears into the kitchen so far and we’re on the verge of getting to make it look good again.

One thing I hear people talk about is how DIYers are not designers and although that might be the case for some people, I know that there’s plenty of DIYers and self taught designers that rival formally trained and educated interior designers. One Room Challenge: Week 3 – Ups, downs, and plans for the week.

It’s week 3 of the Fall 2021 One Room Challenge and today I’m getting you up to date on everything that’s happened in the last few weeks. If you missed any of my previous posts be sure to check them out.

Here’s the GOOD that happened this past week

Tile Demolition

The first DIY I ever completed in this home was installing long subway tile in my kitchen. Now, 4.5 years, I’ve later I ripped it all out. It was bittersweet tearing out a project that I was so proud of but I’m excited to upgrade this backsplash in a few weeks to the Riad tile from The Tile Shop.

Cabinet Box Removal

My goal for this space is to open up the room a little bit. To do that, I removed one of the upper cabinet boxes that will ultimately be replaced with three open shelves.
