Progress

This week was all about the final touches! The room looked good last week but I wanted to make it look GREAT this week.

1. Created yellow decals with contact paper and put them on the wall to give it a wallpapered look.
2. Created vinyl stencils to add initials and years to the black banners.
3. Painted old and thrifted photo frames and created an eclectic gallery wall featuring original, old, and new art!
4. Updated a $2 Ikea clock with some leftover paint.

I still can’t believe this room came together so well! From the start I knew I wanted something bright, bold, and exciting and this room really embodies that! I can’t wait for my daughter and neice to spend so many nights together in this space. I had so much fun working on this room and I can’t wait for the fall 2021 One Room Challenge!

Before and After

This room was originally a light blue color I picked out as a teen, about 16 or 17 years ago. Now the walls have a color block pattern with light pink and white. Having the white on top makes the ceilings appear higher because the wall color is very similar to the ceiling color.

Details

The gallery wall is a mix of frames that we already had and that were purchased from the thrift store. If the frames weren’t black, I painted them either yellow or turquoise to better match the space. I created some DIY art but I also replaced some of the art with prints I purchased on etsy.

I love the wallpaper look I achieved by using contact paper and the cricut machine. I used the cricut to etch the shape and then painted the contact paper with paint. Once the paint dried I peeled off the shapes and stuck them directly to the wall. The great thing about contact paper is that it comes off easily without leaving any sticky residue on the wall.

The banner border pattern was created by using frog tape and the letters were created by making vinyl stencils with the cricut. I filled in the exposed areas with paint.

The girls love books so I wanted to have an easy to access space for book storage. I took this magazine rack, spray painted it black, and placed it under the nightstand for storage!

Last week was about bedding… But I’m going to touch on it again because it’s just so good! The white duvet cover keeps the room light, but the yellow and pink tie in colors from the rug and other places in the room.
