I can’t belive I’ve FINALLY finished this laundry room makeover for the one room challenge. I didn’t realize how much blood, sweat, and tears would go into this room, but I’m so happy with how it turned out and I’m excited to share it with you!

Let’s go back to week one for a second. Our laundry room was a “dumping ground” and lacked any sort of organization and style. Fast back forward to today and I’m so proud of how this space has transformed into a stylish and organized utility space!

This room was all DIY so I wanted to make sure I highligted each of the projects in the laundry room.

Leather and Wood Hanging Rack

The hanging rack was the last project I completed but It’s also one of my favorites! I wanted it to have the feel of something I might see in a boutique and this leater and wood cobination does just that.

Plywood Floors and Stained Checkerboard Pattern

I still can’t get over these plywood floors! It’s amazing what you can do with some inexpensive plywood. I had the home improvement store rip the plywood sheets down to 6 inch strips. I then attached the strips to the floor using a hammer and nail and then finally taped of the checkerboard battern to stain on the squares.

Fold Down Drying Rack

This fold down drying rack is a game changer for this space! I love that it folds down to use with delicates and sweaters and easily folds back up when we’re done using it. I have a full building guide and blog post HERE as a reference.

Elevated Cabinet with Bench and Cabinet Pulls

Because our laundry room is small, we lacked storage. I wanted to make sure that I could add in as much storage space as possible without the room feeling cluttered. I built a bench to elevate the cabinet. By elevating the cabinet I was able to add additional storage room underneath for laundry baskets.

In addition to building the elevated cabinet I also made the cabinet pulls myself. I couldnt find any pulls that I loved so I decided to just make them myself (and I’m so glad that I did).

Peg Rail and Wooden Pegs

The peg rail was another way to add additional storage to the room without taking up floor space. By adding the peg rails I was able to add hanging laundry hampers while also providing additional space for air drying clothes. These pegs are also hand made out of dowel rods, wood glue, and screws.

Hanging Planters

These hanging planters were so fun to make and were part of my takeover with Monica Chaves over at House of Esperanza. You can see a full blog post with video and step by step guide HERE.

Painted Wallpaper

THe handpainted wallpaper was fun and so easy to do! I used painters tape and paint — and that’s it! I taped off the wall in 5 inch increments and painted a herringbone pattern using a paintbrush.

Completing this one room challenge was quite the journey for me but I’m so proud of myself for how the room turned out! I feel like it’s a better expression of my design and home style and my hope is that it motivates me to do a better job with the laundry!
