Most people believe that there isn’t anything more American than apple pie but I believe there isn’t anything more American than a big juicy hamburger. Although the burger originates in Hamburg, Germany It was adapted by Americans and is hands down one of my favorite foods to eat, and cook! I could eat a hamburger every weekend and never get tired of them.

Previously I shared my copycat recipe of Cypress Street Pint and Plate’s Sublime burger and today I will share a review on a burger joint I visited this weekend.

Grub Burger Bar is new to metro Atlanta and after hearing great things about the restaurant we decided to stop by! We dropped in on a Sunday afternoon with the after church crowd. I was a little overwhelmed with the line when we walked in and once I looked around I wasn’t sure we would be able to find a seat for our party of 5 (four adults and a baby). The menu had a great selection of burgers, milkshakes, snacks, sides, and beverages. Hamburger buns are made in-house every hour and the beef is ground on location every morning. The milkshakes are hand-spun (there are spiked options as well) and really give you the feeling that you’re downing an old fashioned favorite.drinkmenu

After waiting in line for no more than five minutes we were greeted by an enthusiastic counter server who was knowledgable about the menu and made sure we were aware of the standard doneness of their burgers (medium-well). He assured us that we would be able to find a table and made us feel welcome in the restaurant.

About 10 minutes after ordering our burgers were brought to us by a friendly server. She made sure we had everything we needed. The server offered William dipping sauce selections for his fries and gave him a little guidance since he usually asks for honey mustard.

THE BURGERS

The Lockhart Legend: The Lockhart Legend is a burger that’s great for someone with a little bit of a sweet tooth. The Dr. Pepper BBQ sauce was amazing — Not to tangy and paired perfectly with the fresh pickles on the burger. The burger is also topped with bacon, cheddar cheese and two onion rings.

Your My Boy Blue: Your My Boy Blue is a savory burger with the perfect amount of crumbled bleu cheese. My sister ordered this burger and loved that the caramelized onions and balsamic vinaigrette added a hint of sweetness but were offset perfectly by the slightly spicy arugula.

Bleu

The Ghost: My brother-in-law ordered the Ghost burger and he admitted that it wasn’t as spicy as he’d expected (although he does have a tendency to eat raw Habanero peppers with the seeds still in tact). Although it wasn’t as spicy as he had hoped, it still was a delicious well spiced burger topped with pepper jack cheese, grilled jalapeños, ghost chili sauce, lettuce and tomatoes.

The OMG: My husband ordered the messiest burger at our table — The OMG Burger. This burger is definitely not a burger for someone with a small stomach. Overflowing with Texas Chili, this burger is also topped with cheddar cheese, mustard, chopped onions and a handful of french fries.

THE SIDES

Sweet Potato Fries: Slightly sweet and perfectly salty, these were some of the best sweet potato fries I’ve had in a while. I would say the only thing that could have been better if they were a little crispier.

Skinny Fries: The skinny fries are cut to a shoestring size and seasoned perfectly.

Onion Rings: The onion rings are hand battered and fried. They are delicious and crunchy. They needed a little salt, but nothing I couldn’t add myself.

THE BEVERAGES

Salted Caramel Milkshake: One word… Perfect. For a hand-spun milkshake this is probably as good as it gets. It was frothy, creamy and had the perfect amount of caramel and salt. milkshake

Hibiscus Raspberry Tea: Great tea but would have tasted better if it “sugar-sweetened” tea. It’s a great option for those looking for a naturally sweetened beverage

RATINGS

ATMOSPHERE: 7.5 – The atmosphere for the restaurant was nice. It’s modern and inviting. The downside is that it doesn’t have very many TVs for a restaurant categorized as a bar. On a busy day I could see it becoming a difficult to find a table as well. atmosphere

Taste: 8.5 – The food was delicious. We were told the burgers would be cooked medium well (slightly pink interior) but all of our burgers seemed to be cooked to well done. My sister asked for hers to be cooked medium but it was still slightly over cooked.overall

Service: 9 – Great service. All of the staff was knowledgable about the menu and helped us however we needed. We had a baby with us and they quickly found us a “highchair” to make our seating area a little less crowded. service

Overall: 8.5. The restaurant was great and we can’t wait to go back. I hope to try some of the appetizers and salads next time. The hamburger buns were delicious and I like knowing that they are made fresh every hour.  taste
